Small-scale fisheries in Costa Rica aren’t just an economic activity. They represent a culture and a way of life. Today, small-scale fishermen have to face threats such as the creation of protected areas in which fishing is forbidden, coastal development, and laws forbidding them to live on the beach, where they’ve always lived.
Pura Pesca shows how small-scale fishermen are getting organized, despite the difficult context, to maintain their activity and their culture.
